5 NSCDC Officers Injured in Train Derailment

Five personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) sustained injuries following a train derailment in Owa-Oyibu, located in Delta State’s Ika North-East Local Government Area.
The officers were reportedly part of a security escort team assigned to the train when the incident occurred, according to the Delta State Command of the NSCDC.
Although details surrounding the accident remain sketchy, authorities confirmed that emergency response efforts were immediately activated to assist those affected and secure the area.
Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Chinedu Igbo, visited the scene of the derailment to assess the extent of the damage and monitor ongoing response operations.
The commandant also paid a visit to injured victims receiving medical attention at a hospital in Agbor, where he expressed concern over the incident and wished them a speedy recovery.
According to Igbo, investigations are already underway to determine the circumstances that led to the derailment.
He disclosed that railway engineers, alongside relevant security agencies, are collaborating to establish the cause of the accident and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The NSCDC assured members of the public that security arrangements along the railway corridor remain intact despite the incident.
The agency stated that personnel have continued to maintain surveillance and protection of critical railway infrastructure to ensure the safety of passengers and operations across the route.
Authorities also revealed that existing safety protocols are being reviewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen rail transport security and improve emergency response mechanisms.
Residents and commuters were urged to remain calm and cooperate with officials as investigations continue.
The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and critical national assets while supporting efforts to enhance the safety and reliability of the country’s railway system.
