Plot to Destabilise NDC Underway, Party Chieftain Alleges

A former chairmanship candidate of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Moses Paul, has alleged that political opponents are orchestrating a coordinated campaign to destabilise the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and weaken its growing influence ahead of future electoral contests.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Thursday, Paul claimed that the internal tensions currently being witnessed within the party were not organic but part of a deliberate plot designed to sow discord among the party’s key leaders.
According to him, the alleged scheme is aimed at creating divisions between the NDC’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Paul dismissed allegations that Obi influenced the nomination of candidates within the party, insisting that the former presidential candidate had no hand in the selection process being questioned by some party members and observers.
“The agenda is to bring NDC to its knees. To the best of my knowledge, Peter Obi did not nominate, and he did not influence any of all of those,” Paul stated during the interview.
He argued that certain political forces had become uncomfortable with the growing prominence of the party, particularly following the entry and collaboration of prominent political figures such as Obi and Kwankwaso.
According to him, opponents of the party are exploiting internal disagreements and attempting to manufacture controversies in order to weaken its leadership structure and erode public confidence in the organisation.
“What gets to happen, especially with what you see with the NDC, with Peter Obi and Kwankwaso moving in, is that people are trying all kinds of things to ensure that there is chaos and anarchy, even within the party,” he said.
Paul further alleged that efforts were being made to drive a wedge between the party’s leading figures, whom he described as the pillars of the movement.
“They’re trying to ensure that they bring division, especially within the three wise men, as I will call them: Peter Obi, Senator Kwankwaso, and also Senator Seriake Dickson,” he added.
The former AMAC chairmanship candidate said his decision to speak publicly on the matter was intended to alert party members and supporters to what he described as a dangerous political agenda targeted at undermining the NDC.
“I’m saying that here, so that the world can know, and the followers too can know that this is the agenda to ensure that this particular party, where Peter Obi is, is brought down right to its knees,” he stated.
The allegations come amid growing political activities and realignments across the country’s opposition landscape, with analysts closely monitoring developments within emerging political coalitions ahead of future elections.
While no evidence was presented to substantiate the claims, Paul’s comments are likely to fuel further debate over the internal dynamics of the NDC and the challenges facing opposition parties seeking to consolidate their structures and expand their national appeal.
