FRSC Recovers Stolen Church Vehicle in Edo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a vehicle stolen from a church premises in Edo State during an intelligence-driven patrol operation conducted by its Iruekpen Unit Command.

The Corps’ Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Ohaeri said the vehicle, with registration number RBC 987 CM, was reported stolen from a church in Benin City, the Edo State capital, earlier in the day.

“Upon receiving detailed information about the stolen vehicle, the patrol team immediately activated its intelligence and surveillance network, strategically monitoring vehicular movements along major routes within its operational corridor,” he said.

He added that through coordinated surveillance and sustained patrol efforts, officers were able to locate and intercept the vehicle within the command’s area of responsibility.

“Through a combination of vigilance, professionalism and effective patrol coordination, the vehicle was subsequently sighted and intercepted,” he added.

According to him, the suspect found in possession of the vehicle claimed to be a delivery agent.

However, preliminary investigations led to his arrest, after which he was handed over to the police for further interrogation.

Ohaeri said the recovered vehicle had been secured pending proper identification and eventual release to its rightful owner.

He noted that the operation highlights the increasing role of FRSC patrol teams in supporting crime prevention and detection across the country.

According to him, beyond traffic enforcement duties, FRSC operatives also assist in identifying stolen vehicles, rescuing crash victims, and providing intelligence support to other security agencies.

“This proactive approach continues to strengthen public safety, deter criminal activities and enhance confidence in the nation’s road transportation system,” he stated.

He also urged motorists and members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements and emergencies through FRSC communication channels for swift response.

Ohaeri further quoted the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as commending the patrol team for its quick intervention, noting that the recovery underscores FRSC’s dual role in road safety and broader national security support.
