Lagos Barber Nears 120-Hour Haircut Marathon Record Attempt

A 24-year-old hairstylist, Ikechukwu Damilola, popularly known as “Transformation King,” has reached the 90-hour mark in his ongoing attempt to set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest hairdressing marathon.
The event, which began on June 10, is taking place at the Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ijanikin, Lagos, and is being monitored by officials associated with Guinness World Records.
The LCDA Chairman, Mr Kareem Abiodun, who is also a sponsor of the marathon, said the initiative is aimed at promoting youth empowerment through skills acquisition and talent development.
He noted that with about 30 hours remaining, Damilola remained focused on completing the 120-hour target scheduled to end on Monday.
Damilola, a graduate of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto-Ijanikin, said his journey into hairstyling began in 2006, adding that he has also trained students in various institutions.
“I am driven by the belief that wealth and opportunity can also come from skills and talent,” he said.
“Another source of my inspiration after God is the zeal to make people look good, for looking good is good business,” he added.
The marathon has attracted visits from government officials, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Sule, among others.
The event has also drawn significant public attention, with supporters and stakeholders in the beauty industry continuing to follow the attempt as it progresses toward its final hours.
