Remi Tinubu Calls for Better Care for the Elderly

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger protection and support for elderly citizens across the country.

In a message marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026, on Monday, she urged Nigerians to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of older persons.

The First Lady said senior citizens deserve respect, protection, and adequate care after years of contributing to national development.

She expressed concern that many elderly people still suffer physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse.

According to her, growing elderly populations require improved systems of care, social support, and community protection.

Mrs. Tinubu stressed the need to ensure that older persons are not neglected or left vulnerable in society.

She reminded Nigerians that aging is a natural stage of life that everyone may eventually experience.

The First Lady urged citizens to value and honour older people for their wisdom, sacrifices, and lifelong contributions.

She called on families, communities, and institutions to work together in preventing all forms of elder abuse.

Mrs. Tinubu reaffirmed the importance of creating a society where senior citizens can live with dignity, security, and respect.
