Oborevwori Calls for Unity at Delta Security Summit

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged stronger collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, and local communities in tackling insecurity, as he convened a security summit aimed at strengthening collective action against crime in the state.

The governor made the call on Wednesday in Asaba while addressing stakeholders ahead of the summit themed “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” which is expected to bring together security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and representatives of various community groups.

According to official statements, the summit is part of renewed efforts by the state government to build a coordinated framework for addressing rising security concerns, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.

In his remarks, Oborevwori stressed that lasting solutions to insecurity require the active participation of all sectors of society, rather than government action alone.

He noted that the summit would serve as a platform for dialogue, intelligence sharing, and the development of practical strategies to enhance peace and stability across Delta State.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security infrastructure and supporting security agencies with the resources needed to carry out their duties effectively.

Stakeholders expected at the event include heads of security agencies, representatives of the armed forces, local government chairmen, traditional institutions, youth leaders, and civil society organisations, all of whom are expected to contribute to discussions on improving security coordination.

Officials explained that the initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy of inclusive governance, emphasizing partnership between state authorities and communities in addressing security threats.

Oborevwori maintained that community vigilance and cooperation remain essential in preventing crime and ensuring that criminal networks do not gain ground in any part of the state.

The summit is expected to produce recommendations aimed at strengthening security operations and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders in Delta State.
