Okpebholo Vows Tough Action Against Criminals

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has warned kidnappers, cultists and other criminals that his administration will pursue them relentlessly and ensure they face justice.
The governor issued the warning on Thursday during the parade of suspects at the Edo State Police Command headquarters in Benin City.
Okpebholo also praised police officers involved in the arrest of a suspect connected to the recent kidnapping incident at the Vegetable Market.
He disclosed plans to establish a special court dedicated to handling cases involving kidnapping and cult-related crimes.
According to him, the proposed court will speed up trials and ensure swift justice for offenders.
“We are going to set up a special court to prosecute kidnappers and cultists,” the governor stated.
“Within two weeks, the court is done with proceedings. I will sign your execution,” he added.
He further warned criminals not to mistake his calm disposition for weakness, insisting that his administration remains committed to tackling insecurity.
The governor said he immediately directed security agencies to track down those responsible for the kidnapping reported on Sunday.
Following the operation, one suspect was arrested while another was killed during the encounter with security operatives.
Two additional suspects linked to the crime are still on the run, with efforts ongoing to apprehend them.
Okpebholo assured residents that criminals and those supporting them would find no safe haven in Edo State.
“They will never find peace in Edo,” he declared.
“The message to all criminals is that they will not go free after committing a crime in this state,” he added.
The governor stressed that security agencies are working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property across the state.
He also defended the security efforts of the Federal Government, citing recent successes recorded by security personnel.
According to him, the achievements being witnessed are evidence that security agencies are receiving necessary support.
“I wonder why people keep complaining that the president is not working,” Okpebholo said.
“The president is funding the security operatives to function well,” he added.
The governor urged residents to avoid criminal activities and embrace lawful means of livelihood.
He noted that living within one’s legitimate income is far better than risking severe punishment through crime.
As part of efforts to encourage outstanding service, Okpebholo rewarded the police officers involved in the arrest operation.
The governor presented N10 million to the operatives in recognition of their efforts and dedication.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, confirmed that investigations into the kidnapping case are continuing.
He said security agencies were intensifying efforts to track down the remaining suspects linked to the criminal gang.
Agbonika revealed that several items were recovered from the arrested suspect during the operation.
Recovered exhibits included a red Lexus RX 350, a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges and a motorcycle.
Security operatives also recovered N2.25 million, which investigators suspect may be proceeds of criminal activities.
The police commissioner thanked Governor Okpebholo for supporting security operations in the state.
He also appreciated Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu for his guidance and leadership.
Agbonika reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting residents and maintaining law and order.
He appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
According to him, community cooperation remains vital in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
