Mbappé, Olise in form as France Cruise Past Sweden

France underlined their title ambitions at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 3–0 win over Sweden to book a place in the Round of 16.
Didier Deschamps’ side dominated possession from the start at the New York New Jersey Stadium, but had to wait until just before half-time for the breakthrough when captain Kylian Mbappé curled in a superb opener.
France doubled their lead in the 53rd minute through Bradley Barcola, who finished a flowing attacking move to put the result firmly beyond Sweden’s reach.
Mbappé then added his second of the night in the second half, converting a precise pass from Michael Olise to complete a dominant display from the French side.
Sweden created chances through Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak but struggled to break down France’s organised defence and relentless pressing.
The victory keeps France’s perfect tournament record intact and sets up a Round of 16 clash with Paraguay, who stunned Germany on penalties in their own shock result.
