Oborevwori Ends DELSUTH Strike, Orders Hospital Overhaul

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has intervened in the industrial crisis at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, resolving the dispute and ordering immediate measures to tackle the hospital’s lingering infrastructure and power challenges.

The breakthrough followed a closed-door meeting with the hospital’s management, where the governor also directed a comprehensive rehabilitation of the state’s premier teaching hospital to improve healthcare delivery.

Chief Medical Director of DELSUTH, Professor Harrison Abedi, who disclosed the outcome in Asaba, said the governor’s intervention had restored confidence among management and staff, while expressing optimism that striking workers would soon suspend their industrial action.

Abedi revealed that the state government had already awarded a contract to restore stable electricity to the hospital, with the Ministry of Energy commencing implementation.

He added that a dedicated 33KVA power line would soon be installed through a new high-tension transformer currently being transported from Lagos.

He said the governor also directed the hospital’s management to work with the Commissioner for Health on a wide-ranging modernisation programme aimed at addressing ageing facilities and boosting quality healthcare services.

According to the CMD, the governor’s swift intervention is expected to pave the way for the resumption of normal hospital services once the unions call off the strike.

He praised Oborevwori’s response as a demonstration of commitment to strengthening healthcare and prioritising the welfare of Deltans.
