Defence Minister calls for coordinated action to protect oil infrastructure

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has urged stronger coordination among security agencies, oil companies, and host communities to safeguard Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Musa highlighted persistent threats such as pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, sabotage, and ageing infrastructure, warning that emerging tactics like the use of explosives require a more proactive response.
He emphasised the need for improved intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and the deployment of modern surveillance technology to protect critical national assets.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to securing the sector, noting its importance to economic stability and investor confidence.
At the end of the meeting, participants agreed on a more coordinated, intelligence-driven security framework and stronger engagement with host communities to promote lasting peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
