APC sweeps Edo council elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in the Edo State local government elections, winning all 18 chairmanship positions and the 192 councillorship seats contested across the state.

Announcing the official results in Benin City, the Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, said the election was conducted in line with the state’s electoral laws and guidelines, covering accreditation, voting, counting, collation, and declaration of results in all local government areas.

He commended the commission’s returning officers for carrying out their duties professionally and impartially, adding that the APC emerged victorious in every chairmanship and councillorship contest after the collation of results.

Although minor logistical challenges were recorded in a few locations, Aifuobhokhan said they did not affect the overall conduct or outcome of the exercise, describing the election as peaceful across the state.

The EDSIEC chairman also praised residents for participating in the poll and thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to carry out its constitutional responsibilities without interference.

He confirmed that certificates of return will be presented to all successful candidates on Monday.

He advised political parties and candidates dissatisfied with the results to pursue legal remedies through the appropriate channels, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to improving future elections through continuous stakeholder engagement and electoral reforms.
