Troops foil ISWAP attack, recover key terror footage

Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted ISWAP attack on Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several insurgents, including a suspected terrorist cameraman, during a fierce overnight gun battle.
The military said the terrorists launched the assault around 10:20 p.m. on July 11, hoping to raid cholera medical supplies under the cover of darkness.
However, alert troops detected the movement early and responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
A major breakthrough came with the recovery of a Sony camcorder from the slain cameraman.
Preliminary forensic analysis of its contents reportedly revealed operational footage, propaganda materials, and evidence suggesting the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators in planning the failed attack.
According to the military, the recordings identified three foreign operatives, including individuals believed to be serving as an ISWAP trainer and medical officer, reinforcing concerns about the group’s international links and external support network.
Troops also recovered ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat equipment abandoned during the retreat.
Satellite imagery and intelligence sources further indicated that the fleeing insurgents evacuated the bodies of several fighters while many others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Two Nigerian soldiers sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and were airlifted for advanced medical treatment.
Military authorities confirmed both personnel are in stable condition, describing the operation as another significant setback for ISWAP amid sustained offensives across the North-East.
