Eno gives contractors two-week deadline

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has issued a two-week ultimatum to contractors handling the Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo to improve the pace of work or risk termination of their contracts.
Eno gave the directive on Wednesday during an unscheduled inspection of the project site, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of construction and the absence of workers despite funds being released for the project.
The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit housing development made up of five-bedroom duplexes designed to provide accommodation for judges and other senior judicial officers in the state.
The governor also warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) responsible for supervising the project against poor oversight, stressing that delays in executing government projects would no longer be tolerated.
Eno said government should not be forced to pursue contractors and workers to complete projects they had already been paid to deliver, adding that his administration would continue to enforce accountability.
He directed the contractors to return to the site immediately and show clear improvement within two weeks, warning that failure to meet expectations would lead to contract termination and possible recovery of government funds.
The governor also criticised the poor attitude of some contractors, saying employment opportunities created through government projects should be handled with commitment, diligence and professionalism.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to timely project delivery, Eno said the Judiciary Quarters project, which began in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.
He added that other ongoing projects across Akwa Ibom State would continue to receive close monitoring to ensure compliance with agreed timelines and specifications.
