Ondo police arrest man over alleged child torture

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Amos Paul, for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on his daughter by using a hot pressing iron on her private part as punishment for bed-wetting.
The incident reportedly occurred at the suspect’s residence in Unaun, Upenme, in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the arrest on Friday, said the matter was reported to the command on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
According to him, preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly subjected the child to the cruel act, leaving her with serious injuries.
The victim was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical attention.
Jimoh said officers from the ‘A’ Division, Owo, responded swiftly after receiving the report, arrested the suspect and took him into custody.
He added that the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the command for further investigation and appropriate action.
The state Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged incident, describing it as cruel, inhumane and unacceptable.
Ohagwu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation.
He urged members of the public to report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and related offences to the police, assuring that perpetrators would be made to face the law.
