Obi signed one-term pact with me — Kwankwaso

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, says Peter Obi has signed an agreement to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

Kwankwaso, who is Obi’s running mate, said the arrangement was reached to respect the principle of power rotation between the North and South.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the former Kano State governor said he had confidence that Obi would honour the agreement and hand over to a northern candidate after four years.

“I believe Peter will keep his word and respect the understanding reached between us,” Kwankwaso said.

He disclosed that the commitment was formally documented, with Obi signing an agreement to serve a single four-year term.

Obi had earlier argued that a one-term presidency would align with the long-standing political understanding on rotation, especially as President Bola Tinubu, a southerner, is expected to complete his tenure in 2027.
