The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, following allegations linking him to the reported assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, in an official statement.
According to the government, the decision is intended to allow security agencies conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which reportedly occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
The government stressed that the suspension should be viewed in the context of its determination to ensure that allegations involving public officials are properly investigated without interference.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, public safety and the rule of law across the state.
The statement noted that the government would uphold “public safety in all circumstances that guaranteed law and order and the sanctity of lives,” stressing that these principles remain applicable even when allegations involve officials or institutions of government.
Izeze’s suspension places the spotlight on the unfolding investigation, with attention now shifting to the security agencies expected to establish what transpired during the alleged confrontation involving Temple.
The government’s action signaled that the matter is being treated seriously, particularly given the individuals involved and the circumstances surrounding the reported incident.
Until the investigation is concluded, the allegations against the commissioner remained allegations, and the facts of the incident are expected to emerge from the security agencies’ findings.
