Otuaro donates items to Warri inmates

The immediate past deputy governor of Delta, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, has donated about 200 mattresses, clothes and other items to inmates of the Warri Correctional Centre, Warri South of Delta.

The items were presented to the inmates on Monday as part of the programmes to mark the 56th birth anniversary of the former deputy governor.

Addressing the inmates, Otuaro, who is a member of the Christ Embassy Church, first expressed gratitude to the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

He said whatever the church had been doing for the correctional centre in the past 20 years was strictly under the inspiration and directive of Oyakhilome.

“We know that there are needs in this place and our purpose of coming is to give God’s word and make you better persons through the Rhapsody of Realities book.

“Do not joke with the book; study it and pray with it,” he advised the inmates.

Otuaro noted and expressed displeasure that the computers the church donated to the centre were destroyed during the Endsars saga.

“You do not use your hands to spoil your properties. Many things were spoilt in this facility during the Endsars. We paid those teaching you computer lessons before they were burnt.

“We did the renovation to avoid congestion. Do not destroy the facilities again because you need them to learn.

“One day, you will surely leave here, so, we want you to learn and become meaningful to the society,” he said.

Earlier, the Deputy Controller, Warri Correctional Centre, Mr Edo Lucky, thanked the former deputy governor for the donation.

He also expressed gratitude to Oyakhilome and the Christ Embassy Church family.

In his exhortation, Pastor Yomi Morakinyo of Christ Embassy Church, Effurun, said he had known Otuaro for over 20 years and long enough for his humanitarian gesture.

He prayed that God would continue to sustain him.

Morakinyo urged the inmates to put their trust in God, saying that “Only God is able to take the beggar from the dunghill to set him among princes.

“If you trust in God and believe in Him, today will be the best day in your life. Some of you were released, not that they did not do anything, but God granted them favour.”

Highlights of the ceremony include the presentation of a drama, titled: “You are not useless,” by the inmates as well as the cutting of the birthday cake.

Otuaro’s birthday is Tuesday.
