FG to provide starter kits to TVET graduates, says minister

The Federal Government has announced plans to provide starter kits to graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to help them become self-reliant and boost their employability.

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Swabs Ahmad, revealed this during a visit to Bayero University, Kano, where she reviewed ongoing vocational training projects supported by the ministry.

She explained that the initiative is aimed at turning skills acquired in training into practical opportunities for income generation and entrepreneurship.

According to the minister, the programme is part of the government’s wider efforts to reduce youth unemployment and address the skills gap in Nigeria.

The starter kits will cover around 25 vocational areas, including carpentry, tailoring, leatherwork, ICT, cosmetology, welding, and solar installation.

Professor Ahmad praised President Bola Tinubu for endorsing the programme and encouraged graduates to make full use of the resources to develop their skills and create jobs.

She added that the programme is intended to support the government’s goal of promoting self-sufficiency and fostering economic growth through youth empowerment.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Haruna Musa, described the initiative as timely, given the country’s challenges with low employability and reduced productivity among young people.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Ahmad Tsauni, he urged participants to apply themselves fully and use the opportunity to positively impact their communities.

The ministry also emphasised its commitment to collaborating with institutions that encourage innovation, productivity, and entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.
