Jibrin rejoins APC, declares support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jibrin, who defected from the APC to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in May 2022, announced his return during a political rally held in his hometown of Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area, on Sunday.
Announcing the decision on his official Facebook page on Monday, Jibrin said the move followed consultations with his supporters, who unanimously agreed to leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to rejoin the ruling party.
“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa.
“The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, return to the APC, and endorse President Tinubu for a second term.
” About 2,000 scholars also offered special prayers for the President, seeking peace, development, and progress for our constituency and the nation, ”Jibrin wrote.
Jibrin’s defection comes barely two months after his expulsion from the NNPP for alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues, allegations he described at the time as “flimsy and unjustified.”
“The NNPP violated the principles of fair hearing and due process.
“I was expelled without an opportunity to defend myself, ” he said.
Despite expressing displeasure over his removal, the former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups said he accepted the party’s decision in good faith and would not pursue legal action.
Jibrin also accused the NNPP leadership of failing to appreciate its members’ contributions, saying, “The NNPP has failed to value its members. Nonetheless, I thank them for the support extended to me during my time in the party.”
He urged his supporters to join him in his “new journey” back to the APC, while maintaining peaceful relations with those choosing to remain in the NNPP.
Political observers see Jibrin’s return as a strategic boost for the APC in Kano, a key battleground state as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
