Maj.-Gen. Olatoye takes over as 34th Commandant of NDA, Kaduna

Major-General Oluyemi Olatoye has officially assumed duty as the 34th Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, taking over from retired Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim on Monday.
Prior to his appointment, Olatoye served as General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.
Expressing gratitude upon resumption, he thanked God for the opportunity and acknowledged the trust placed in him by Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
He also lauded the guidance and mentorship of Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
Olatoye commended his predecessor, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim, for his professionalism and contributions during his tenure, pledging to uphold the academy’s mission of producing high-caliber junior officers for the nation’s armed forces.
He emphasised his commitment to maintaining and enhancing the standards of the academy, encouraging staff and cadets to freely share advice and engage with him.
“The academy belongs to all, and collaboration is key to its success,” he said, stressing his desire to give back to the institution that contributed to his career growth.
Major-General Ibrahim reflected on his six-month tenure, highlighting achievements in discipline, infrastructure development, and organizational improvements despite financial constraints.
He attributed these successes to the dedication of both staff and cadets and appealed for continued support for the incoming commandant.
“The mission of the Nigerian Defence Academy remains unchanged: to produce high-quality officers for the armed forces,” Ibrahim said, emphasising the importance of teamwork and cooperation under the new leadership.
The transition reflects a continuity of excellence at the NDA, ensuring that the academy continues to maintain its pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s military leadership.
