The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the killing of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, and recovered firearms allegedly taken from the officers during the attack.
The officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, while performing routine duties under the Aluu Division. The incident left one officer with severe injuries that later resulted in the amputation of his leg before he eventually died.
During the attack, the assailants reportedly escaped with the officers’ service rifles, including AK-47 weapons.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, ordered a coordinated operation involving intelligence and tactical teams to identify those responsible and retrieve the stolen firearms.
The Police Command said the breakthrough was achieved after sustained operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which led to the arrest of three suspected members of the gang.
Investigators recovered three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle during the operation. Police also said the suspects are being linked to other unresolved murder cases currently under investigation.
Authorities disclosed that efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspected gang member who remains at large.
Police Vow No Hiding Place For Criminal.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, CP Adepoju described the arrests and recovery of weapons as a significant achievement in the fight against violent crime.
“The breakthrough demonstrates the Command’s resolve to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in Rivers State,” he said.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, in line with the policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
He warned criminal groups operating in the state to abandon unlawful activities or face prosecution, while urging residents to provide credible information that can assist security agencies in preventing crime and improving public safety.
