Ndume, Oshiomhole exchange heated words during Reno Omokri’s ambassadorial nomination screening

A tense moment unfolded at the Senate on Thursday as Senators Ali Ndume and Adams Oshiomhole engaged in a sharp disagreement during the screening of former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who was nominated for an ambassadorial position.
The incident occurred during a plenary session in Abuja, drawing widespread attention and briefly disrupting proceedings.
The clash began after the Senate Committee handling the screening process moved a motion recommending that Omokri and several other nominees be allowed to “take a bow and leave,” a common practice for nominees with prior public service experience.
Senator Ndume, representing Borno South, insisted that parliamentary procedure required the motion to be seconded before any further remarks or objections could be made.
Oshiomhole, however, forcefully opposed this, arguing that he should be permitted to speak before the motion advanced. Representing Edo North.
He maintained that Omokri’s nomination required closer scrutiny, pointing to what he described as unresolved controversies circulating in the public space.
He argued that glossing over such concerns would undermine the integrity of the screening process.
The disagreement led to a brief back-and-forth exchange between the two lawmakers, prompting murmurs across the chamber as other senators looked on.
The session eventually continued, but not before the confrontation became a central talking point among observers.
A video clip of the exchange was later shared publicly, attracting reactions online and reinforcing public interest in Omokri’s nomination.
