UNESCO launches adolescent health, inclusive learning initiative across 4 states

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has launched a major intervention aimed at improving adolescent health and education outcomes across four Nigerian states.
The programme, titled “Strengthening Adolescent Health and Inclusive Learning,” was unveiled in Abuja and would be implemented in Enugu, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, and Ogun States, targeting over one million learners.
The initiative focuses on addressing gaps in access to health information, life skills education, and inclusive learning, particularly for vulnerable and underserved groups.
UNESCO would provide technical support, policy guidance, and capacity-building for schools to create safer and more inclusive learning environments.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, UNESCO Country Representative Jean-Paul Ngome Abiaga described the programme as a commitment to expanding opportunity and ensuring inclusion for all adolescents, regardless of background or ability.
The partnership also involved CWAY Group, which pledged support through corporate social responsibility efforts.
Stakeholders, including the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO, said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to youth development and inclusive education, with at least 1,000 learners with disabilities expected to benefit directly.
