Police bust drug rings, foil kidnap plot in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs following coordinated raids across the state, leading to multiple arrests, seizure of illicit substances, and the disruption of suspected criminal networks.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command disclosed that its operatives also foiled a planned kidnapping during the operations, underscoring intensified efforts to curb crime in the region.
One of the major successes occurred on April 15 at about 22:23 hours, when officers attached to the Oghara Division stormed a suspected drug hideout in Ugholo community.
The operation led to the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect, identified as Justina Onokpasa.
According to the statement, Anti-Crime Patrol operatives of Oghara Division raided a drug hideout in Ugholo community, arresting Justina Onokpasa (F), 33.
A substantial quantity of suspected illicit drugs was recovered during the raid.
Police said the exhibits included “two large bags of weeds suspected to be Canadian loud and also three hundred (300) small cans of substances also suspected to be Canadian Loud, thirty (30) bottles of CSC codeine, ten (10) sachets of tramadol, two (2) sachets of ‘Super Royal’ (Redboy), twelve (12) sachets of Swinol, twelve (12) pieces of molly drugs, and four hundred (400) empty distribution cans.”
The suspect remained in police custody, while investigations are ongoing.
In a separate operation, personnel of the State Anti-Cult Unit carried out another raid in Abraka on April 16 at about 11:45 hours, resulting in the arrest of three additional suspects.
The police stated that, “operatives of State Anti-cult Unit (SACU) raided drug spots in Abraka, and arrested three suspects.
During the raid, large quantities of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs were recovered.”
All suspects apprehended during the operations are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their efforts and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain the crackdown on criminal activities.
The statement noted that the Commissioner “commended the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain the operations, urging the public to continue to support the Police with credible information.”
The Command emphasised that the raids are part of broader ongoing measures aimed at combating drug trafficking and related crimes across the state.
