Tinubu appoints Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Tuggar is said to have stepped down from the role to participate in the 2027 general elections.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to take on the new role as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.

In the same development, President Tinubu nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye, an indigene of Kogi State, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

A seasoned diplomat, he brings over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service, having served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to Onanuga, the appointments form part of ongoing efforts by the administration to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy for improved efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships.

He added that the President congratulated the appointees and urged them to discharge their duties with diligence and commitment to national interest.

Tinubu further tasked them with advancing economic diplomacy, promoting regional stability, and ensuring the protection and welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
