Ambode endorses Hamzat, backs Tinubu re-election

Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections, while also declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

In a personally signed statement released on Thursday, Ambode congratulated Hamzat on his emergence as the party’s preferred candidate, describing him as a loyal party man whose political journey reflects consistency and commitment to the APC’s ideals.

“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party, the APC,” he stated.

He further praised Hamzat’s long-standing engagement within the party, noting that his consultations with party leadership demonstrated unity and discipline.

“Your deliberate and purposeful consultations with the party hierarchy and all members of the party have demonstrated you are a true party man committed to the party’s ideals and values of unity and progress,” Ambode said.

According to the former governor, Hamzat’s adoption as consensus candidate was a recognition of his experience, loyalty, and contributions to the party over the years.

“I am sure that our state will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience and skills,” he added.

Ambode also used the statement to reaffirm his support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing it as central to continued development in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.

“As I congratulate Dr. Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our Leader, President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He added that sustained governance under Tinubu would bring greater prosperity to both Lagos State and the country.

“I am confident that Mr. President’s vision and aspirations for our nation will yield bountiful returns and put us on the path of growth and prosperity,” he noted.

Ambode further urged members of the APC to mobilise aggressively for the 2027 elections, calling for a strong voter turnout in favour of the ruling party.

“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver at least 3 million votes for Mr. President and support other states in the South West to deliver great results,” he said.

He also encouraged the party to retain its dominance at the National Assembly level by ensuring the re-election of APC candidates across legislative positions.

Ambode concluded by expressing optimism about the future, stating that the best days for Lagos and Nigeria are still ahead.
