Wike declares end to PDP factions after verdict

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that factional divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have come to an end following a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Abuja shortly after the judgment on Thursday, Wike said the decision of the apex court has conclusively resolved the crisis.
“The Supreme Court judgment has now made it known there is only one PDP, and we no longer hear faction.
“Faction does not exist any longer in the Peoples Democratic Party, ” he said.
The Supreme Court had earlier nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan between November 15 and 16, 2025, which produced executives led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The court ruled that the convention was conducted in violation of existing court orders and described it as an abuse of court process.
The verdict effectively brings to a close months of internal wrangling within the opposition party over its leadership structure.
Reacting further, Wike took a swipe at key figures who supported the Turaki-led faction, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, suggesting their political calculations had been disrupted by the ruling.
“I don’t know where they are going to pitch their tent,” he remarked.
The FCT minister reaffirmed the legitimacy of the convention backed by his camp, which was held in March 2026 and produced leadership under Abdulrahman Mohammed and other members of the National Working Committee.
Wike also addressed ongoing political realignments, stating that the PDP would not admit members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aligned with Atiku Abubakar. He described such individuals as liabilities rather than assets to the party’s electoral prospects.
The Supreme Court ruling is widely seen as a decisive moment in restoring unity within the PDP as it prepares for future political contests.
