Former Bayelsa State Governor and Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, on Thursday received a wave of high-profile political and public figures into the party, in what party leaders described as a major boost to its national structure.
Among those formally received was the former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency John Yoriyo, who arrived with a delegation and officially declared his decision to join the NDC, pledging support for its vision and political direction.
“I received the former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency John Yoriyo, alongside his delegation, who formally joined the NDC and pledged their support for our vision and movement,” Dickson stated during the event.
The occasion also witnessed the arrival of Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, who led a large delegation of lawmakers from Edo State.
Prominent among them was Hon. Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, who attended alongside her husband, music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.
The couple, alongside other lawmakers, were received into the party by Dickson, who described the development as part of efforts to strengthen the NDC’s national reach.
“I was also pleased to receive Hon. Charity Iguodalo Aiguobarueghian, the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, together with a large delegation of Assembly members from Edo State.
“Notably among them was Hon. Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, accompanied by her husband, the renowned musical icon Innocent Idibia (2Baba), who paid a courtesy visit to declare their support for the NDC and formally join the party.”
Dickson also formally presented membership cards to several political figures earlier engaged by the party leadership, marking their full integration into the NDC structure.
Those who received the membership cards included High Chief Peter Ojemen (Don P), the Okodalo of Esanland in Edo State, Dr. Aisha Yesufu, and others.
“I had earlier received them, but had the pleasure of formally presenting them with our party membership cards on this occasion, symbolising their full integration into the party,” he noted.
Addressing the gathering, Dickson urged both new and existing members to remain committed to building a credible political alternative capable of addressing the needs of Nigerians.
“I urged them all to remain steadfast and committed to supporting and building the NDC as we continue to offer Nigerians a credible and people-oriented political alternative,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the NDC remains a major opposition force in the country’s political landscape and called on Nigerians across all backgrounds and political affiliations to join the movement.
“I thank Nigerians across the country for their continued support, confidence, and prayers.
”The NDC remains the main opposition party in the current political landscape of our country, and we welcome all Nigerians, irrespective of previous political affiliations, to join and support this growing national movement, ” said
