Fans hail Davido’s 15-year music journey

Fans, celebrities and stakeholders in the entertainment industry have continued to celebrate Afrobeats superstar Davido as he marks 15 years in the music industry.

The celebrations, which have dominated several social media platforms, highlighted the singer’s consistency, resilience and contributions to the global growth of Afrobeats.

Admirers of the award-winning singer flooded X, Instagram and other social media platforms with congratulatory messages in honour of the milestone.

Davido, popularly known as “OBO” among fans and colleagues, had earlier reflected on his career journey in a post shared on his X handle.

“God is the best of all planners! 15 years in da game,” the singer wrote.

The post quickly attracted thousands of reactions from fans across Nigeria and beyond, many of whom praised the singer for his achievements and influence on African music.

Several supporters described Davido as one of the leading figures who helped project Afrobeats to the global stage through his music, collaborations and international performances.

Others said his songs had continued to connect people from different backgrounds while inspiring younger artistes across Africa and the diaspora.

Reacting to the anniversary, an X user, @abazwhyllzz, expressed admiration for the singer’s influence and success.

“After God, you are my own greatest. Thank you for blessing our ears, soul and spirit.

“Without you there would have been no Nigerian music. Thank you for taking us to the limelight. Cheers to many more years and more success,” the fan wrote.

Another admirer, @sy40, simply described the singer as “always the greatest,” while @h3nree_ referred to him as the “Ronaldo of Music.”

On Instagram, user @annasoto2880 hailed Davido as “The Godfather,” while another fan, @prince_thissO01, praised the artiste’s consistency and generosity.

“Thank you Jesus for making us see more of this amazing man’s work and kindness,” the fan commented.

Another supporter, @manlikeIcey, highlighted Davido’s influence on the global acceptance of Afrobeats.

“From the release of his breakout records to becoming one of Africa’s most recognisable global music icons, Davido consistently redefined the sound and reach of Afrobeats on the international stage.

“Over the years, his music transcended borders, united diverse audiences and inspired a new generation of creatives across the world,” the post read.

However, not all reactions were celebratory, as an X user identified as @Quotez noted that despite the singer’s longevity in the industry, he was yet to secure a Grammy Award.

“15 years, while people that came after you have Grammy,” the user wrote.

Davido, born David Adeleke on Nov. 21, 1992, in Atlanta, United States, began his professional music career in 2011.

He initially performed as part of the music group KB International before launching his solo career and working on his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo, which combined Afrobeats and hip-hop sounds.

The singer rose to prominence after the release of “Dami Duro,” one of the standout singles from the 2012 album.

Over the past 15 years, Davido has remained one of Africa’s biggest music exports, releasing several hit songs and five studio albums, including Omo Baba Olowo (2012), A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), Timeless (2023) and 5ive (2025).

His success has earned him multiple international nominations and awards, including three nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024, where Timeless was nominated for Best Global Music Album.

Davido has also won Best African Act at the MOBO Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards.

In 2019, he became the first solo African artiste to sell out the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London during his “City of Davido” concert.

His collaboration with Chris Brown titled “Blow My Mind” became the first Nigerian music video to record two million YouTube views within 24 hours.

The singer also achieved another milestone in 2020 when his hit track “Fall” earned gold certification in both the United States and Canada, making him the first African artiste to attain the feat.

Davido further made history as the first Afrobeats artiste featured on an official FIFA World Cup theme song after appearing on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” for the Qatar World Cup.

Beyond music, the singer has received international recognition, including being named among the 100 Most Influential Africans by New African Magazine in 2019 and appearing on TIME Magazine’s 100 Next list in 2021.
