Veteran journalist’s wife, Adebayo emerges Lions 2nd VDG in Delta

 

 

The Lions International Multiple District 404 Nigeria on Saturday elected Mrs Dora Adebayo, wife of veteran journalist, Mr Sola Adebayo as the Second Vice District Governor in Delta.

The election was part of the Lions five-day programme at its 19th Multiple District Convention tagged, “Asaba Amaka 2026” which began on Wednesday in Asaba.

The Convention has as its theme, “Building Bridges of Service and Unity”.

Announcing the result of the elections,
Lion Patricia Udeme, Chairperson, Nomination and Election Committee, described the election as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

She said Mrs Adebayo emerged victorious after polling 75 votes to defeat her opponent, Lion Olore Evelyn Imokhe, who polled 32 votes.

According to Udeme, the total number of registered voters were 119, while 115 delegates were accredited to vote.

“A total of 115 votes were cast, with 107 valid votes and eight rejected votes recorded”.

Udeme, a Past District Governor of Lions Clubs International, said members freely participated in the voting process and accepted the outcome in good faith.

According to her, elections naturally produce winners and losers, the most important aspect is that the process remained orderly and transparent.

She said that the Lions leadership structure was designed to prepare members for leadership responsibilities through mentorship and continuous training.

Udeme noted that while all the contestants were qualified leaders, delegates eventually elected the candidate they considered best suited for the position.

According to Udeme, Mrs Adebayo will assume office as Second District Governor 404-A4 Nigeria in July.

Speaking in an interview, the victorious Mrs Adebayo, expressed gratitude to members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in her leadership.

Adebayo also appreciated her supporters and campaign team for their commitment throughout the election process, describing their encouragement as a major source of strength.

She said the election was a win win for all while urging all members to give her the needed support to grow and deepen development of the organisation.

According to her, the outcome of the election reflected the unity and shared vision among members of the organisation.

Adebayo pledged to serve with dedication and humility, stressing that her administration would focus on empowerment, unity, and humanitarian service.

She pledged to pay special attention to supporting members and vulnerable people within communities through programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self reliance.

The newly elected official also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among members, noting that unity remained essential for the growth and success of the organisation.

“I remain committed to serving humanity and justifying the confidence placed in me by members,” Adebayo said.

The event earlier featured leadership sessions, humanitarian discussions, policy deliberations, and community-focused initiatives including childhood cancer support programmes.

It attracted Lions and Leos from across Nigeria alongside government officials, traditional rulers, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.

Also, goodwill massages came from various stakeholders including Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme among others.
