NDC to host digital political engagement workshop in Port Harcourt

Political communication experts, social media influencers, content creators and youth volunteers are expected to converge in Port Harcourt this weekend as NDC Rivers State hosts a strategic media and digital engagement workshop aimed at redefining political participation in the state through technology and social media innovation.

The programme, titled “Rebranding Political Engagement Through Social Media,” is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 98 Aba Road, opposite Government Craft Center, Port Harcourt, by 11:00 a.m.

According to the organisers, the event is designed to bring together media volunteers, bloggers, photographers, graphic designers, digital strategists, communication enthusiasts and young political advocates to strengthen digital mobilisation and build a coordinated media structure capable of driving progressive political engagement in Rivers State.

Speaking ahead of the event, Director of ICT and New Media for NDC Rivers State, Alaibi Benjamin, described the initiative as a timely intervention in the evolving landscape of political communication, noting that the future of political engagement lies in strategic digital communication driven by young and innovative minds.

He said the gathering would focus on collaboration, networking, creativity and the use of social media tools to promote issue-based participation, civic awareness and effective communication strategies within the political space.

Benjamin added that participants would have the opportunity to interact with experienced digital communicators and media practitioners while gaining practical insights into online campaign management, audience engagement, content creation and political branding.

Organisers also stated that the workshop forms part of broader efforts to encourage increased youth participation in governance and public discourse through responsible and impactful digital communication.

Interested participants and volunteers have been encouraged to register and make enquiries through the designated contact lines released by the organisers.

The event is expected to attract young political stakeholders, social media influencers and communication professionals from across Rivers State and beyond.
