Cross River PDP screens 45 aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State says it has screened a total of 45 aspirants ahead of its May 21 primaries for State and National Assembly elections.
The party disclosed this through its state secretary, Mr Joe Bisong, during an interview with journalists in Calabar on Wednesday.
Bisong explained that the screening exercise was conducted by a five-member committee led by Fred Osim, covering aspirants seeking to contest various legislative positions under the party’s platform.
According to him, 33 aspirants were screened for seats in the Cross River State House of Assembly, while three others were cleared for senatorial ambitions.
He further stated that nine aspirants were screened for the House of Representatives tickets, bringing the total number of participants in the exercise to 45.
Bisong expressed confidence in the party’s chances in future elections, arguing that the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level had created room for the PDP to regain public trust.
“PDP is the only political party that can guarantee Nigeria’s democracy. I can assure you that we have been tested and proven worthy of being trusted,” he said.
He added that the party remained optimistic about electoral success, noting that voters would ultimately decide leadership choices in the 2027 general elections.
Bisong also maintained that the PDP still enjoys strong grassroots support across the state, which he believes will translate into victory at different levels of government.
