ADC names Imoke, Abdulfatah Ahmed to lead presidential primary panels

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved the appointment of former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, and former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, to head key committees for its upcoming presidential primaries.

The party announced the decision on Monday in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, outlining a broad set of committees tasked with overseeing screening, elections, and appeals ahead of the selection of its presidential candidate.

According to the statement, Senator Liyel Imoke will serve as Chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee, which is responsible for vetting aspirants seeking the party’s presidential ticket.

Former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was appointed as Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, which will supervise the conduct of the primary election process.

The Presidential Screening Committee also included C.I.D. Maduabum as Secretary, alongside members such as Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, Professor Bode Ayorinde, Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Professor David Salifu, and retired Colonel Abubakar Ali Ciroma.

For the Presidential Election Committee, the party named Professor Yisa Gana as Secretary. Other members include Maj.-Gen. Adamu Jalingo, Dr Auwalu Anwar, Chief Emenike Ikechi, Dr Macaulay Iyare, Tajudeen Bakare, Elder Ubolo Itodo Okpanachi, Zainab Buba Galadima, Uzoamaka Onyeama, and Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris.

The ADC also constituted a Presidential Appeals Committee to handle complaints arising from the screening and election processes.

The committee is chaired by Dr Suleiman Usman, SAN, with Ken Imasuagbon serving as Secretary and Dare Okerade as member.

In addition, the party set up multiple committees to manage its governorship primaries across the country.

A first governorship screening panel would be chaired by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, S.E. Aruwa, with Femi Olawuyi as Secretary.

Other members include Lauretta Onochie, Chief (Dr) Vivian Ugochukwu, Akilu Indabawa, Ibrahim Mohammed Wali, and Professor Rabiu Bello.

A second governorship screening panel is headed by Justina Abanida, with Hon. Chille Igbawua serving as Secretary.

Members of the panel includye former Deputy Governor of Imo State, H.E. Gerrard Irona, Senator Yisa Braimoh, Hassan Mohammed Ibrahim, Joseph Ephraim Enemali, and Navy Captain Aliyu Ngolmo.

The party further announced two Governorship Appeal Committees to handle disputes arising from the primaries.

The first is chaired by P.I. Oyewole, with Abdulhakeem Taiye Ibrahim as Secretary and Adah Usman as member.

The second appeal committee is chaired by M.E. Sheriff, with Realwan Okpanachi as Secretary and Hassan Yakubu as member.

The ADC said the composition of the various committees was carefully designed to ensure transparency, credibility, fairness, and internal democracy in the conduct of its primary elections across all levels.

The party added that the arrangements were part of its broader effort to strengthen trust in its internal democratic processes ahead of the general elections.
