Ndume emerges APC consensus candidate for Borno South senatorial seat

Senator Ali Ndume has been endorsed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a party primary conducted in Maiduguri on Monday.

Ndume, a long-serving senator and former Senate Leader, was returned unopposed after an affirmation exercise held during the APC senatorial primary, where he emerged as the sole candidate on Monday.

His emergence came after his main challenger, Abdullahi Askira, withdrew from the race following consultations with party stakeholders within the senatorial district.

Askira, who currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, said his decision was informed by appeals from APC leaders and other influential stakeholders who encouraged him to step down in the interest of party unity.

The development cleared the path for Ndume’s uncontested affirmation, consolidating his position as the party’s flagbearer for the forthcoming election cycle.

Speaking after his emergence, Senator Ndume expressed gratitude to APC leaders, delegates, and supporters in Borno South for their continued backing.

He said their confidence in his leadership remained a source of encouragement and reaffirmed his commitment to representing the interests of the district effectively.

Ndume also commended his former challenger, Abdullahi Askira, for withdrawing from the contest, describing the decision as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to party cohesion.

He urged party members and stakeholders in Borno South to maintain unity and continue working together as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

The senator called for sustained collaboration within the party, stressing that internal harmony would strengthen the APC’s chances in the upcoming general elections.

If re-elected in 2027, Senator Ndume would return to the National Assembly for a record fifth term, further extending his long-standing legislative career in the upper chamber.
