Nwifuru reverses suspension of Ebonyi head teachers

Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate lifting of the suspension placed on two head teachers in Ebonyi State, reversing an earlier disciplinary action taken by the state Ministry of Education over alleged gross misconduct.
The suspension had initially been imposed on the two head teachers following allegations of misconduct, denial of pupils’ right to quality education, and alleged sabotage of government efforts in the education sector.
According to reports, the disciplinary action came days after a viral video circulated online showing pupils learning under poor conditions in a school environment, including dilapidated classrooms and inadequate infrastructure.
The footage sparked public outrage and renewed debate on the state of basic education facilities in parts of Ebonyi State, particularly in rural communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Oketa, the governor said his attention was drawn to public reactions and media reports surrounding the suspension.
Nwifuru directed that the suspension be lifted immediately, reiterating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of teachers, pupils, and the overall improvement of learning conditions across the state.
He acknowledged that there are still infrastructural challenges in some communities but stressed that government is undertaking ongoing school construction and rehabilitation projects to address the gaps progressively.
The statement added that major renovation and construction works are currently ongoing at Community Primary School Unwuigboke and Community Primary School Unwuezeali in Oriuzor, as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure.
The governor also assured citizens that while not all needs can be met simultaneously, his administration remains committed to improving education standards across Ebonyi State.
He further appreciated public concern over the issue and reaffirmed government’s commitment to quality education and improved welfare for both teachers and pupils in the state.
The reversal is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the state government to balance accountability with responsiveness to public concerns raised through social media and civic engagement.
