Putin reaffirms Russia-Africa ties on Africa day

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Africa as an increasingly influential force in global affairs, reaffirming Moscow’s commitment to strengthening political, economic, and strategic relations with countries across the continent.

In a message marking Africa Day 2026, Putin praised African nations for their growing role in international diplomacy and their push for a more balanced global system rooted in equality and mutual respect.

He said Africa Day represents the continent’s victory over colonial rule and reflects the long-standing struggle of African peoples for freedom, dignity, peace, and prosperity.

According to him, African countries have continued to record progress in economic development, regional cooperation, and social advancement despite global economic pressures and security challenges.

Putin also noted that African states are increasingly contributing to efforts aimed at resolving international disputes and promoting stability within their respective regions.

He commended the African Union and regional blocs for their efforts in strengthening continental integration and improving mechanisms for conflict resolution and crisis management.

The Russian President stated that Moscow values its long-standing friendly relations with African nations, adding that Russia and Africa share a common vision of a fairer global order.

“We are united by the desire to build a just multipolar world based on genuine equality and the supremacy of international law,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing diplomatic and economic engagement between Russia and African countries, as global powers intensify competition for influence on the continent.

Putin expressed optimism that the upcoming Third Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for October in Moscow would deepen cooperation in sectors such as trade, energy, security, education, technology, and infrastructure.

“I will be glad to welcome African leaders in Moscow,” he added while extending goodwill messages to governments and citizens across Africa.

The statement is seen as part of Russia’s broader strategy to expand its presence and partnerships in Africa amid shifting global alliances.
