Port Harcourt hosts Nigeria Women’s Football League Super Six

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced Port Harcourt as the host city for the 2026 Premiership Super Six finals.

The season-ending playoffs would take place from June 5 to June 14 in Rivers State.

It would be the first time the prestigious women’s football tournament will be hosted in Port Harcourt.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said Rivers State had consistently supported women’s football development in Nigeria.

She noted that the state successfully hosted the league’s Annual General Assembly last October.

“The Rivers Government has consistently demonstrated strong support for women’s football,” Shabi stated.

“We are excited to return with our flagship competition as part of our commitment to expanding elite women’s football across Nigeria,” she added.

According to her, the Super Six remains the peak of the NWFL Premiership season.

Shabi expressed confidence that football fans in Rivers State would create an exciting atmosphere for players, officials and supporters.

She also urged participating clubs to comply strictly with competition rules and directives from the league organisers.

The tournament would feature the top three teams from Groups A and B of the regular season.

Qualified teams include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and debutants Abia Angels.

The Super Six would be played in a round-robin format to determine the league champion.

The winner of the competition would also represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B qualifiers.

Over the last five editions, the league has produced different champions, reflecting growing competitiveness in women’s football.

Rivers Angels won the title in 2021, while Bayelsa Queens emerged champions in 2022 and 2025.

Delta Queens claimed the trophy in 2023, while Edo Queens lifted the title in 2024.

The 2026 edition is expected to produce another highly competitive title race among the country’s top women’s football clubs.
