Military Pension Board Warns Retirees Against Fraudulent Information Requests

The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has issued a warning to military retirees and next of kin, urging them to be cautious of fraudsters targeting pension-related processes to obtain personal and financial details.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, said reports indicate that some individuals are posing as facilitators of loans and pension benefits in order to defraud unsuspecting pensioners.
He noted that these scammers contact retirees and request sensitive information such as Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), National Identification Numbers (NIN), bank account details, and ATM card information under false pretences.
According to him, the Board does not engage any third party to collect personal or banking information for the processing of pensions, gratuities, loans, or any other benefits.
He warned pensioners and their families not to share confidential information with individuals or platforms that are not officially authorised by the Military Pensions Board.
Mohammed added that any such requests should be treated as suspicious and reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.
He further advised retirees and next of kin to conduct all pension-related transactions strictly through official MPB communication channels.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of military pensioners and working with relevant agencies to curb fraudulent activities targeting them.
