PDP Sets Up Appeal Panels to Resolve Primary Election Disputes

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has created appeal panels to handle complaints arising from its recently concluded primary elections for presidential, governorship, and National Assembly positions.
The party said the initiative is aimed at strengthening internal democracy, improving transparency, and ensuring fairness in its candidate selection process ahead of future elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, explained that the panels would receive and review petitions from aspirants and other stakeholders who are dissatisfied with the outcomes of the primaries.
He added that the committees would examine complaints in line with the PDP constitution, its electoral guidelines, and relevant legal provisions, and then submit recommendations for consideration.
According to him, the party leadership views the move as part of ongoing efforts to maintain credibility in its internal electoral system.
Mohammed said the governorship and presidential appeals panel will be headed by the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, with Samuel Anyanwu serving as one of its members.
He also disclosed that a separate panel for state and National Assembly elections will be chaired by Suleiman Afolagbe.
The nine-member panel for state and National Assembly contests is scheduled to sit on June 8 and June 9 at the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) Hall in Abuja.
In addition, the 24-member panel handling governorship and presidential appeals will meet on June 10 at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The party said the panels are expected to help resolve disputes quickly and prevent internal disagreements from affecting its preparations for upcoming elections.
