FG Postpones Evacuation of Nigerians From South Africa

The Federal Government has postponed the planned evacuation of Nigerian nationals from South Africa, shifting the operation to Wednesday due to logistical challenges.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria said in a statement on Monday that the first batch of returnees, earlier scheduled to depart the same day, will now leave on 10 June.
Officials attributed the delay to “unforeseen logistical considerations,” adding that preparations are being finalised to ensure a smooth evacuation process.
The government has been coordinating the return of Nigerians who opted to leave South Africa following recent tensions affecting foreign nationals.
More than 1,000 Nigerians have been screened and cleared, while President Bola Tinubu has approved five evacuation flights for the exercise.
Authorities said further details on flight schedules will be released once final arrangements are completed.
