The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has named Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate to its governorship candidate for the 2027 Kano election.
The announcement was made on Monday during a consultative meeting involving party leaders and stakeholders in Kano.
Governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, formally presented Kwankwaso to the party caucus.
A statement issued by campaign spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, described the choice as strategic and carefully considered.
According to the statement, the selection followed extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
The party said the decision aligns with its commitment to inclusive governance and effective public service.
NDC leaders also cited youth empowerment and economic development as key considerations behind the choice.
Gwarzo expressed confidence in his running mate’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the party’s vision.
He said Kwankwaso’s leadership qualities and grassroots connections would strengthen the ticket ahead of the election.
The governorship candidate noted that his running mate possesses valuable experience in public service and community development.
Kwankwaso previously served as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
The party described the Gwarzo-Kwankwaso ticket as a blend of experience, competence and commitment.
NDC leaders said the combination offers the leadership needed to address pressing challenges facing Kano State.
The party also believes the selection will strengthen its grassroots support and political structure.
With preparations for the 2027 election gathering momentum, NDC expressed optimism about its chances at the polls.
