Police Arrest Criminology Student, Three Others Over Alleged Gun Possession in Delta

A 19-year-old criminology and security studies student of Dennis Osadebey University, Asaba, and three other suspects have been arrested by the police in Delta State over alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

The suspects were intercepted during a stop-and-search operation at Interbau Roundabout in Asaba.

Officers reportedly discovered a locally made Beretta pistol concealed inside a bag carried in a tricycle.

According to the student, the weapon was allegedly purchased in Onitsha for N350,000 and was intended for self-protection following a dispute involving a youth leader in his community.

The spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said officers also recovered a short axe from the residence of the main suspect.

He added that the suspect was allegedly preparing for initiation into a confraternity group.

In a separate operation in Ughelli, police arrested two suspected armed robbers, identified as Moses Francis (29) and Cosmos Erueseke (26).

They were linked to a series of robbery incidents in the area, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of their gang.

Police also intercepted an abandoned Toyota Sienna along the Ozoro–Oleh Expressway.

A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of suspected illicit drugs, including codeine, tramadol, Swinol, Man G, and Vega.

The driver fled the scene and is currently being tracked by security operatives.
The police said investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
