Police Assure Safety After Mushin Market Explosion

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents of safety following a bomb explosion at a busy market in Mushin.
Authorities said the situation has been brought under control and normal activities can continue without fear.
Lagos Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani confirmed that security operatives quickly responded to the incident.
He said the area remains safe after a full security sweep by experts.
The explosion occurred at the Wey Street Material Market in Mushin during evening trading hours.
The blast caused panic among traders and residents in the busy commercial area.
Police said the incident involved an Improvised Explosive Device planted beneath a vehicle.
The device reportedly detonated when the vehicle was started.
Tijani said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was immediately deployed to the scene.
He explained that the area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched.
According to him, only one person sustained injuries in the explosion.
The injured victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
He added that no additional explosive devices were found after a detailed sweep.
Tijani urged residents and traders to remain calm and continue their normal activities.
He assured the public that security agencies are fully in control of the situation.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has vowed that security forces would not relent in the fight against terrorism and criminality.
He said the police remained committed to flushing out criminal elements across the country.
Disu made the statement in Lokoja at a North-Central security stakeholders’ meeting.
He was represented by Deputy Inspector-General Isiyaku Mohammed at the event.
The meeting reviewed recent security developments, including bandit attacks in parts of the region.
Authorities also referenced the killing of bandit leader Kachalla Ibrahim, also known as Batijo, in Kogi State.
The IGP stressed that community policing remains central to tackling insecurity.
He called for stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
Disu urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly, saying, “say something when you see something.”
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security in the state.
He said Lagos would continue working closely with the police and other security agencies.
The governor spoke during a courtesy visit by senior police officials in Lagos.
He was represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde.
Sanwo-Olu described security as a top priority of his government.
He said efforts would continue to ensure Lagos remains safe for residents and businesses.
He also praised the police for their ongoing collaboration with the state government.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of ICT and South-West operations, Adegoke Fayoade, also visited Lagos House, Ikeja.
He said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen operational readiness and improve crime-fighting strategies.
Fayoade commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support for security agencies.
