Tinubu Declares End to Neglect of FCT Satellite Towns

President Bola Tinubu has declared that the era of neglecting suburbs in the Federal Capital Territory is over under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the government is committed to extending development beyond city centres into satellite communities.
Tinubu spoke on Monday in Kurudu, Abuja, during the inauguration of a major water supply network project.
He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The President described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a covenant with Nigerians to deliver practical governance.
He said his administration would no longer confine development to elite urban districts.
“We are here not just to cut a ribbon, but to breathe life into a fundamental human right,” he said.
Tinubu declared that neglect of satellite towns has officially ended under his government.
He recalled earlier promises to ensure infrastructure reaches all parts of the FCT.
He said water supply projects must extend to communities where working-class residents live.
The President noted that approval for the Karu Water Supply Project was promptly granted.
He said funding delays were avoided to ensure quick delivery of the project.
The project includes over 194 kilometres of pipeline networks across multiple communities.
These include Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, and adjoining satellite towns.
Tinubu said the initiative guarantees access to clean and potable water for residents.
He described water as essential to health, dignity, and economic progress.
He praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure delivery.
The President said performance should be measured by impact, not rhetoric.
“Thank you, ‘Mr Projects,’ for your leadership,” he said.
Tinubu lamented years of reliance on unsafe boreholes and water vendors in the area.
He said previous administrations failed to fully address the needs of satellite towns.
He urged residents to protect and maintain the new infrastructure.
He warned against vandalism and illegal water connections.
The President said similar projects are being extended to Bwari and other area councils.
He reaffirmed commitment to urban renewal and rural integration across the FCT.
Earlier, Wike said the project was executed in line with presidential directives.
He said the administration remains focused on delivering people-oriented infrastructure.
FCT Minister of State Mariya Bunkure also thanked the President for supporting development efforts.
She said ongoing reforms are improving infrastructure across the territory.
Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Richard Yunana Dauda, said the project was designed to serve growing communities.
He explained that the system connects over 1,000 distribution lines.
Dauda said the initiative marks a major expansion of potable water access in the FCT.
