Obi Alleges Moves To Stop His 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has alleged that forces within the Federal Government are working to prevent him from contesting the 2027 presidential election, insisting that such efforts will fail.
Obi made the remarks while speaking at a leadership programme organised by the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative at Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State.
He said he remained focused on his political ambition despite what he described as attempts to frustrate his aspiration.
“If you know what they are doing to ensure that I’m not on the ballot in 2027, you will be surprised. Nigeria government is doing everything to ensure that I do not contest in this election, but I’m not looking at the obstacles but at the destination,” he said.
Obi stated that he was not desperate to become president, but determined to see Nigeria work effectively, urging young people to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in elections.
He also challenged all presidential aspirants, including President Bola Tinubu, to a public debate, insisting he was the most qualified among them.
“I challenge any of those contesting to a debate to say what they want to do for this country, including President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
Reacting to a Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja concerning the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Obi dismissed concerns that it could affect his political future, saying he remained confident.
“They cannot stop me. They will fail. Let me assure you it is not the end of the road,” he said.
He described those allegedly working against him as “reactionary forces” bent on weakening Nigeria’s democracy, while calling for peaceful resistance and continued civic engagement.
Obi also reiterated that insecurity remains a major national challenge and urged leaders to focus on rebuilding the country.
He further donated N15 million to Madonna University, stressing the importance of investing in education and healthcare as key drivers of national development.
