Tinubu Inaugurates Rehabilitated Karu Roads in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the project as a key investment aimed at boosting economic activities and improving the quality of life for residents.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration, the President said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to tackling urban congestion and delivering critical infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu said the road project goes beyond the construction of transport infrastructure, noting that it is designed to stimulate local economic growth by improving mobility for commuters, businesses and residents.

According to him, the Karu corridor, a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states, had for years been plagued by heavy traffic congestion that negatively affected productivity and daily life.

He expressed confidence that the upgraded roads would significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic gridlock and create a more conducive environment for commercial activities in one of Abuja’s fastest-growing districts.

The President also highlighted the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, saying the initiative would improve road safety, enhance visibility at night and strengthen security for motorists and residents.

Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his commitment to implementing the administration’s urban renewal programme across Abuja.

He said the visible transformation taking place in both the city centre and satellite communities demonstrates the government’s determination to ensure that development reaches every segment of the population.

The President also praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project on schedule and maintaining high construction standards, describing the performance as proof that indigenous firms can successfully execute major infrastructure projects.

He urged traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to safeguard the roads by preventing vandalism and indiscriminate waste disposal capable of obstructing drainage systems.

Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described the Federal Government’s support for infrastructure development in the territory as unprecedented, assuring residents that ongoing projects would be sustained.

Wike said the administration remained committed to improving infrastructure and expanding development to satellite towns in line with the government’s vision for the nation’s capital.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the project includes modern drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and solar-powered streetlights aimed at enhancing transportation, safety and economic activities in Karu, one of the FCT’s most densely populated satellite communities.

The inauguration comes barely a week after President Tinubu commissioned the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network as part of ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure and public services across the Federal Capital Territory.
