Army Orders Probe Into Alleged Soldier Misconduct

The Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered an investigation into allegations of harassment and brutality reportedly carried out by some soldiers against civilians in the South-West.
The directive followed complaints raised by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, over alleged misconduct involving military personnel.
In a statement, the Depot Army Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, said the Nigerian Army remained committed to protecting citizens, especially young people, stressing that any conduct outside its mandate is unacceptable.
He noted that no student or law-abiding citizen should be subjected to harassment, intimidation or assault by security personnel, adding that the Army is taking the allegations seriously.
According to him, the Commandant has ordered a full investigation to establish the facts and ensure that any personnel found culpable are appropriately sanctioned in line with military regulations.
The Army also appealed to NANS representatives to provide evidence and witness accounts to assist the inquiry, while reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and discipline.
It further disclosed that the Commandant is open to engaging student leaders to address concerns and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
