LeBron James Set to Leave Lakers After 24 Seasons

NBA superstar LeBron James is set to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and continue his career elsewhere in what would be a record-extending 24th season in the league.

A person familiar with the decision confirmed the development, while ESPN reported that the move was communicated through his long-time agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

James, who has spent the past eight seasons with the Lakers, is expected to explore new team options as the NBA free agency window opens, with formal signings permitted after July 6.

Among the possible destinations being discussed is the Golden State Warriors, a move that could see him link up with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who recently opted out of his contract to give the franchise more roster flexibility.

James’ departure would close his longest continuous spell with a single team, during which he led the Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship and became the league’s all-time leading scorer.

The 40-year-old veteran, who turns 42 in December, began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, won two titles with the Miami Heat, returned to Cleveland for another championship, and later joined the Lakers in 2018.

He remains one of the most decorated players in NBA history, with 22 All-Star selections, four MVP awards, four NBA championships and numerous scoring and longevity records.

James most recently averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game, continuing to perform at an elite level despite his age as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
