Galadima Alleges Plot to Weaken Opposition Parties

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has condemned a recent Federal High Court judgment affecting the party’s logo, describing it as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the party’s participation in the electoral process.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Tuesday, Galadima alleged that the timing of the judgment was aimed at preventing the party from accessing the portal for uploading candidates, but expressed confidence that the decision would be overturned on appeal.

He also called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate and sanction judicial officers found to have compromised the integrity of the judiciary, insisting that accountability was essential to protecting democracy.

Galadima warned that Nigeria was drifting towards a one-party state, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using state institutions to weaken opposition parties ahead of future elections.

He criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its handling of opposition parties and alleged that the current administration was more focused on politics than governance.

The NDC chieftain also opposed the proposed creation of state police, arguing that governors could deploy the outfit as a political tool to intimidate opponents and manipulate elections.

Despite his concerns, Galadima expressed optimism that Nigeria’s democracy would endure and urged opposition parties to unite instead of engaging in internal conflicts, saying a common front was necessary to challenge the ruling party.
