IBB Hails Nupe Quran Translation Initiative

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has described the translation of the Holy Quran into the Nupe language as a landmark achievement that will deepen the understanding, study and practice of Islam among the Nupe people.
Speaking through the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkhadir Kure University, Minna, Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, at the public presentation of the translated Quran in Bida, Babangida said the project would make the message of the Holy Quran more accessible to native speakers.
He noted that translating the Quran into indigenous languages bridges the gap between divine revelation and everyday understanding, enabling believers to better appreciate the teachings of Islam in their mother tongue.
According to him, the initiative preserves the rich Islamic heritage of Nupe land while promoting moral values, faith and cultural identity.
Babangida also expressed concern over the impact of the digital age on Qur’anic learning, saying modern distractions had weakened the culture of discipline and in-depth Islamic scholarship that defined earlier generations.
He urged Muslims to embrace the translated Quran as a tool for reviving deeper study of the Holy Book and strengthening their relationship with Allah.
